As I flipped the calendar from March to April it donned on me that Earth Day is this month. As a very young girl, 5 years old to be exact, I remember the first official Earth Day in 1970. At the time our family owned and operated a large bicycle shop.
We had a huge explosion in bicycle sales that year and it went hand in hand with the new nationwide grassroots demonstration on the environment. What a wonderful memory to resonate on. We have really come a very long way, however have very far to still travel…
What are you doing to celebrate and care for the environment this April 22nd? I believe that I will be planting a tree and buying a bicycle. My husband and I have talked about getting bikes for years, but no more excuses. It’s funny what comes around, goes around.
Earth Day 2009 is especially important to us as we re-open our earth-friendly candle business this month. It is also very important to our world. We have new leadership and more eyes are now open to the importance of taking care of our delicate home, the earth.
My challenge to you: Maybe it’s time for you to try natural candles or products for your home? or maybe get a bike? Whatever you decide to do…just do it!
I’ve included some links to green sites which may inspire you to try or do something new.
